How the Lighthouse Children’s Home Works
The Lighthouse Children’s Home is a registered social welfare project under the Thai government. This means that Terra / Lighthouse family serve as the legal guardian of any child that comes to stay for reasons such as severe poverty, abuse, neglect, or lack of opportunity for education.
The Lighthouse Children’s Home – including Lighthouse Foundation – is funded solely by private donations, meaning there is no financial support from any government or public organizations.
During the school year, children stay at Lighthouse Children’s Home and study in local Thai schools. During school breaks, the children may return to their village and stay with relatives, depending on the situation and safety of the child. Those who have no immediate family remain with the Lighthouse family year-round.
